You say life has been hard on you
Well brother I got news- its hard on me too
We seem to face the same old issues
Some on the surface
Some deeper in our tissues
And I know slavery has played its part- word
Word being separated and subjugated
And that passes to the brain of our child
So I want to step off with words
And start with the right now
You say the world just doesn’t understand
But I am not the world my love
I am your woman
And I know how deep it really goes
Trying to tread on the dream when the water feels low
And oh, if our ancestors can walk
Walk barefoot and afraid in the dark
For miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles
I know we can do this.
Come on lets start!
